# Staying up to date

Proto ships dashboard updates frequently; if you keep a tab open across a deploy, a notification lets you refresh to the latest version — no action is needed otherwise.

## The update notification

While you're signed in, the dashboard periodically checks whether a newer version has been deployed. If it detects one, a notification appears:

> **A new version is available**\
> Refresh to get the latest updates. **Refresh**

| Behaviour       | Details                                                                                                             |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Position**    | Top-right of the screen.                                                                                            |
| **Persistence** | Stays on screen until you refresh — it has no close button and can't be dismissed.                                  |
| **Action**      | Select **Refresh** to reload the page and load the latest version.                                                  |
| **Frequency**   | Checked automatically about once a minute, and again whenever you switch back to the tab or navigate to a new page. |

## Do I have to refresh right away?

No. The notification doesn't interrupt what you're doing, so you can finish your current task before refreshing. Your next sign-in or page load will pick up the latest version regardless of whether you select **Refresh**.
