Staying up to date

How Proto lets you know when a new version of the dashboard is ready.

Proto ships dashboard updates frequently; if you keep a tab open across a deploy, a notification lets you refresh to the latest version — no action is needed otherwise.

The update notification

While you're signed in, the dashboard periodically checks whether a newer version has been deployed. If it detects one, a notification appears:

A new version is available Refresh to get the latest updates. Refresh

Behaviour
Details

Position

Top-right of the screen.

Persistence

Stays on screen until you refresh — it has no close button and can't be dismissed.

Action

Select Refresh to reload the page and load the latest version.

Frequency

Checked automatically about once a minute, and again whenever you switch back to the tab or navigate to a new page.

Do I have to refresh right away?

No. The notification doesn't interrupt what you're doing, so you can finish your current task before refreshing. Your next sign-in or page load will pick up the latest version regardless of whether you select Refresh.
